DAY 5, Utah Canyon Explorer Trip

TO START WTH DAY 1, click here

YEEeeeeHHaawww! Scott, you're a wild man! . . . and this is the way Day 5 started!

Soft red sand, hot day, and horses that were off to the races!

Woooo hoooo!!! By the way, each day had PLENTY of cantering!

You GO Bob! He loved his horse "Tough". I'm sure he would have gone home with him if Mel would have sold him, but I think he was just tooooo valuable to his business.

Then, more downhills!

And sidehills,

And weirdhills,

And more cantering,

And uphills,

AAAANd. . . . .a vista break. . . goooood horses!

And more downhills. . .

And dusty hills. . . .HINT!! Always take a bandana! It is ONE ESSENTIAL piece of equiptment!

Water break (although I think this may be out of order.. . .oh well, I think we need water now)

And the majestic slot canyons. How about this?

These slot canyons were a favorite hideout for indians as well as a favorite spot for Hollywoods grand adventures. We were able to experience the magic of why. . .

Good thing we have Rowdy with us, looks a bit scary to me!

Bob, is that you reachin' for your gun?

Jennifer is shooting with her six gun. . camera, that is . . .

Amazing structures

Lunch break. So, it's about 80 degrees outside, and almost chilly in these canyons. I just wouldn't want to get caught in one during a flash flood event!

Out of the canyons and on to some beautiful sage plateaus. The trick to managing your way through these sage valleys is to keep your head in the middle, a leg on each side and let the horse pick his footing. And if you have a smart horse, they'll do just fine. Some. . not so much.

Ah, more water. HEY> . it looks like the other place! What? I'm thirsty!

End of the day pasture. The horses get their first roll in five days! They have been high-lined every day but today. Aaahhhh.. I felt a grand relief for them. . so did everyone else. It was a sympathetic sigh coming from our entire group.

HjjooH yeah!

I love these fences!

The puppies always love to frolic and play when they see us!

DINNER!

A tired Jason sits at the table. We all know the rains are coming. Jason's wife and McKatie (not sure of her spelling) driven to our camp to join us for the evening. The wife of a cowboy can be a lonely one. The boys can be gone for weeks at a time, tending cattle, tourists, horses.. .or just plain ole fillin' their wild spirits with the beauty of the prarie. Jason, we love your silly jokes, your songs, and your kind spirit.

Tired ole Rusty at the end of the day. . .again, he finds the most comfy spot around.

  3. The trips vary in price. This one, I believe.. if my memory serves me right, cost about $1000 for the week. That includes everything.
